About Gates Paint & Body

Christina Gates

I specialize in recovering missed operations and underpaid procedures for collision shops.  With over two decades of experience in the automotive industry, I bring extensive mechanical, dealership, and MSO collision repair expertise to independent appraisal and estimating services. I am ASE certified, an I-CAR Platinum professional, and independently licensed nationwide — from Alaska to New York — with all-lines adjuster licenses held across multiple states.

I prepare accurate, defensible automotive repair estimates for customer-pay, collision, and insurance-related losses using client-provided damage photos. Field appraisals are also available depending on location.

I support collision repair facilities that may lack estimating software or internal staffing by providing professional estimate and supplement writing through both Mitchell and CCC ONE platforms. Having worked on both the insurance and repair facility sides of the industry, I possess a thorough understanding of carrier guidelines, repair methodology, and documentation requirements.

My role is not to replace your service advisors or estimators — but to support them by strengthening repair documentation, improving estimate accuracy, and helping facilities capture properly billable operations.

Services

Customer Pay Estimate

FREE

My Customer Pay Virtual Estimate service provides a convenient, unbiased online evaluation of vehicle body repair damages.

This option is ideal for minor incidents—such as a low-speed impact or accidental damage—when you’re unsure whether filing an insurance claim makes sense, or when you’d like a second opinion after receiving a dealership or repair facility quote.

Insurance Claim Estimate

$100

If you have filed an insurance claim but have not yet received an estimate, I can prepare one on your behalf.

Simply provide your claim information, and I will write a repair estimate based on applicable carrier guidelines and current market standards.

This service is intended for clients with an open insurance claim who are awaiting an estimate and exploring their repair or settlement options.

Supplements

$100

I prepare customer pay, insurance claim estimates and supplements in accordance with carrier guidelines and local market requirements. This service is designed for independent body shops that may not have estimating software or dedicated staff to identify and bill for additional damage discovered after vehicle drop-off.

My goal is to ensure all warranted repair operations are properly documented and presented, allowing the shop to be fairly compensated for the work performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Even experienced estimating teams face time constraints, insurer pushback and increasing documentation demands. I provide an additional layer of repair validation and supplement documentation to help identify missed damage, strengthen estimate justification and capture properly billable operations without increasing internal staffing costs.  I do not replace your existing estimating staff - I strengthen your estimate accuracy and insurer justification to allow your advisors to remain focused on customers and production.

Yes. While supplements can still be necessary after teardown, a thorough and accurate initial estimate can reduce:

  • Missed operations

  • Back-and-forth with insurance

  • Payment delays

  • Repairing total losses

The goal is to document as much of the loss correctly from the start.

I identify missed damage or under-documented repair operations that can significantly affect final repair totals. Shops frequently see $1,000–$3,000 in additional properly billable operations per ticket, depending on repair severity and insurer involvement.

Very little involvement is required from your team. Most repair orders require only vehicle intake details, damage photographs and any existing insurance Estimate of Record, when available. Services are structured to integrate seamlessly with your workflow while delivering one-day turnaround for estimate and supplement documentation support. Communication is coordinated directly with your advisors or management team according to your established processes.

Free shop estimates are typically written by service advisors, not licensed auto appraisers. They are often quick, preliminary assessments meant to get your vehicle scheduled or gain your business — not a complete evaluation of damages.

I am ASE, I-Car Platinum certified as well as independently licensed across the country — from Alaska to New York — and hold all-lines adjuster licenses in multiple states.  My estimates are focused on accuracy, documentation, and insurance compliance if applicable.

In many body shops, the initial estimate is written by a service advisor. While service advisors play an important role in managing workflow and customer communication, they are often not licensed appraisers and may not have a technical automotive background.

Because of this, shop estimates are commonly:

  • Written quickly to move the vehicle into production

  • Based mainly on visible damage

  • Dependent on teardown and technician input to identify additional operations

  • Corrected later through supplements

My role combines the knowledge and responsibilities of a technician, insurance adjuster, and licensed appraiser. With formal mechanical training, hands-on repair experience, and insurance claim expertise, I am able to:

  • Independently identify required repair operations

  • Understand how the vehicle is repaired — not just what is visible

  • Document the loss correctly from an insurance perspective (if applicable)

  • Write estimates that are accurate, complete, and defensible

Rather than relying on teardown to “discover” the repair, I anticipate what the repair will require and document it properly from the start.

In most corporate owned body shops, service advisors are not individually licensed auto appraisers. While the business may operate under a license, the person writing the estimate often is not.

I am ASE, I-Car Platinum certified as well as independently licensed across the country — from Alaska to New York — and hold all-lines adjuster licenses in multiple states.    I do not rely on technicians to determine what should be written — I am fully capable of identifying and steering the proper repair based on the loss.
